Winter storm Saturn – also known as the “underdog” of winter storms – surprised us, all! The meteorologists predicted that the slow-moving storm would last from Wednesday to early Friday morning leaving behind less than a foot of snow. Saturn, however, had its own idea, which apparently was to bury all of us alive. In five years of living in Massachusetts, Saturn is by far the worst (or the best depending on how you look at it) storm we’ve experienced.…
Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of year. It’s a time to be with family & celebrate the miracle of Christ’s birth. In our household, Christmas has always been extra special because it’s also my mom’s birthday. Her name, Dora, means “Gift from God”; and that is exactly what she is to my family and I. Mom, you truly are the best Christmas gift our family could ever have received. We wish we could be there with you today…
Hurricane Sandy left major destruction in its wake. Fortunately, by the time it made it to our part of New England, it lost steam & was down-graded to a category 1 hurricane. Other than a few fallen trees, there’s not much damage in our neighborhood. I wish that was true for the rest of the East coast and Caribbean. Praying that those who bore the brunt of the storm are safe. Here’s to a speedy rebuild!…
With the end of my school days approaching quickly, I’ve been exploring (read: stressing over) what “the next step” in my optometry-career journey will be. On Tuesday, I had an interview at Salus in Pennsylvania. Luckily, Jay was able to go with me, so we left Reesie with our neighbors, packed up our rental car and made the six hour drive to Philadelphia. The drive was long, but stress-free other than running into traffic around New York city. It was…
It’s been seven months since we lost Snuggles; and here we are again, mourning the loss of another four-legged family member, Boots. This comes as a huge shock to all of us. Yes, he celebrated his twelfth birthday but he was so active and healthy (so we thought). We all thought we had at least another couple of years with him. Poor Cody (our other dog) has been walking around the house looking for Boots. It breaks my heart. We…
How sad and adorable is this face?! My little Reesie buttercup is home from the vet and on the mend. Yesterday, she had a teeth cleaning and other dental work to remove several impacted baby teeth. Since she had to be put under anesthesia for the procedure, the hubby and I agreed that it would be best to have her dewclaws removed at the same time. Since Reesie was a wee lass, she had malformed and brittle nails that frequently…
Jay had a hankering for dumplings on Sunday & I’m never one to turn down the chance to eat douhua (a tofu dessert with light syrup), so off to the city we went! This was the first time we ventured to Boston’s Chinatown for dim sum without our Chinese speaking friends. Not a big deal, right? We’ve been to Hei La Moon hundreds of times before. We know how to play the waiting game for a table. We know all…
Are you ready for some serious cuteness overload? I’ve been playing around with my new Nikon (Henry) and managed to snap some pretty cute pictures of Reesie. She was reluctant to accept the modeling gig, but like a professional she got through it. She’s such a ham! For a newbie, the pictures aren’t too shabby, eh? My favorite picture is the one of her standing on the dining chair brainstorming how to get the apples on the table. And yes,…
Let me introduce you all to my new baby. Isn’t he handsome? His name is Henry; and I love him already. There will be no more grainy iPhone pics to grace these pages. Instead, you will be forced to look at crappy DSLR pictures until I figure out what Henry’s snazzy buttons, switches, and settings actually do. Personally, I’d prefer to stumble my way through all of the functions, but lucky for all of you, Jay is a stickler for…
As a child, Memorial Day weekend always marked the start of summer vacation, so naturally I associate the holiday with family BBQ’s, going to the lake and running amuck with my cousins. Those days of stirring up trouble are over, but we still managed to usher the summer in with a blast! Yesterday, we had a cookout with our neighbors – Chris, Kathy and their kids (Laura & Christopher). Jay and Chris fired up the grill while the rest of…
